Uncovering the Secrets of the Hair Cycle

‘Hair is like rain’. Strange it may seem, but this line always crosses my mind as I write articles about hair loss and the nature of its causes. Yes, few might agree with me; however, I find this certain analogy true no matter how silly it may sound.Rain follows a certain cycle which when disrupted my cause detrimental circumstances like sudden or unexpected climate change. This also holds true when it comes to the hair growth cycle. Why do I say this? It is because like rain, the hair when subjected to different factors like ailments and diseases, infections, hormonal imbalances, ageing, heredity, vitamin deficiency and so forth, can change drastically. The hair’s texture, color and quality might diminish and worst of all, hair loss or hair thinning might occur.

Why do we need to understand the Hair Growth Cycle?

By understanding the hair growth cycle, we gain knowledge on how hair loss occurs. Furthermore, we can free ourselves of the trouble of wondering how long it takes before we can experience hair regrowth. Having an idea of the natural cycle of hair growth will give us a hint on how to prevent hair loss from occurring unnaturally.

How does hair grow?

Hair is essentially composed of keratin, a special protein that is made up of a root, bulb and a follicle. Each hair strand consists of three concentric layers: the cuticle, the cortex and the medulla.

Cold Laser Therapy: A Hair Growth Option for Both Men and Women

While low-level laser therapy lacks general understanding, it does demonstrate effectiveness on hair loss; otherwise, it wouldn’t have remained popular until today. Until scientists completely understand the principles of photo-biology, laser therapy or phototherapy at large will remain outside mainstream science.

Low-Level Laser | Laser Hair Treatment
Low level laser presents the qualities opposite to a hot laser or a high-level laser. LLL is a cold or soft laser that can render only up to a hundred watts or less. Aside from the fact that they are coherent-thus easily manipulated-cold lasers do not possess the component to produce heat, sound, or vibration which is why they are used to serve a curative purpose.

Low-Level Laser Therapy for Hair Restoration
Low-level laser therapy is the application of low-level lasers to serve a therapeutic purpose, in this case, to treat hair loss. Traditionally, LLLT has been in use for treating mild pains, skin diseases, and neurological conditions.

It was a Hungarian physician, Dr. Endre Mester, who discovered the therapeutic potential of low-level lasers for hair loss in the 1960s. He noted that treated areas have experienced thicker hair growth compared to the controlled area.

Getting the Right Hair Growth Product

Even the sensational icon Lady Gaga suffers from hair loss. She tries all her might to conceal that with makeup. Now her manager is probably invoking divine powers to find the right hair growth product that can aid Gaga with this plight (that is, if she really considers  it so). Still if her problem is yours, then here are some tips to get that right product straight into your medicine cabinets.

Find the Source of the Problem

Gaga might be suffering from a temporary type of hair loss and yours could be another case. Her image  as a wild artist, coming up with notorious hairstyles, could have triggered her hair loss. This can only be traction alopecia and chemical trauma. While we can’t be so sure, you have to know there are different causes to hair loss in the scalp.

The most common one is androgenetic alopecia which has something to do with genetics and the male hormones. Almost every hair growth product is made for this type of hair loss.

Androgenetic alopecia occurs when the testosterone (the male sex hormone) interacts with the enzyme 5-alpha reductase to form dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT formation near the hair follicles causes hair loss. Androgenetic alopecia tends to occur in 2 out of 5 men in their mid-20s, and 1 out of 5 women in their mid-30s.

Another common type of hair loss is alopecia areata. It is characterized by the patches of hair loss all over the body. This is an auto-immune disease which may not require treatment since it is only temporary.

Exploring Laser Therapy for Hair Loss

Lasers are generally known as destructive devices used for anything but for therapeutic purposes – especially as a therapy for hair loss. The word “laser” stands for “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.” As most action movies have it, lasers are used to cut or destroy things to shreds. They are displayed as fatal weapons and not curative tools for any medical condition. This is probably why balding people get put off at the sound of lasers. Little do they know, there are two principles to the types of lasers: the cold and the hot lasers.

Types of Lasers

Hot lasers deliver power up to thousands of watts. They are common devices in surgeries to perform clean, almost bloodless incisions. They are also widely-used in removing an unhealthy tissue without damaging the surrounding healthy tissues.

Cold lasers, on the other hand, do not possess thermal, sonic, or vibratory components to destroy. Most therapeutic lasers operate at 890 nanometers to 904 nanometers which is an infrared light. Typically though, they give off an average power of 100 milliwatts or less – a quality perfect for rendering therapy for hair loss.

Laser Comb: A Non-Invasive Therapy for Hair Growth

The market is definitely flooded with several hair care products which focus on hair restoration. You might have already heard about medicine and surgical hair transplant procedures for treating hair loss. While all of them claim to give good results, majority are fake and cause more damage to the hair. Laser hair treatment is pain-free and has no side effects. For those fearful or reluctant to use prescription medications for hair loss such as Rogaine or Propecia, a laser treatment offers a safe, effective and risk-free way to treat hair loss.

Laser treatment stimulates blood flow to the scalp and energizes the hair follicles, but do not damage the skin. A laser comb is an electrical device with a working mechanism that is based on Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) to induce hair growth. Laser combs are purported for use in both male and female hair loss. It is also considered safe for use by cancer patients who experience hair loss after undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

The Scientific Principle of Laser Comb

Hair care is of much interest nowadays. People are now more aware of the importance of their appearance. Hair loss is one of the stressful challenges that could happen to anyone, and products for hair regrowth are not so easy to find.

A breakthrough in hair care, laser comb is a laser phototherapy device designed for the general public to use at home. It is a high quality device using precision components. Empirical data revealed that both men and women of all ages are satisfied with its positive benefits. Researches and clinical trials have also proven the efficiency of laser combs and it has now become a popular hair loss treatment that promotes hair regrowth using the low level laser therapy.

LLT has been used throughout the world for over 30 years and has been the subject of numerous studies with over 2,500 scientific papers published worldwide. Many long-term clinical research programs internationally have shown bio-stimulation of low level laser therapy that gives numerous positive effects to living cells with no reported side effect.

Low Level Lasers “energize” the tissue since light is a form of energy. For example, laser light on scalp and hair follicles provides high levels of light which are used by the cells in the scalp and hair to assist in the normal chemical processes performed by those cells. The term for this is “Photo Bio-stimulation”. This scientific principle works as light energy penetrate into soft tissue and is converted to cellular energy as it increases the action of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP, a molecule that is a major carrier of energy from one reaction site to another in all living cells). By doing so, laser light increases the energy available to cells so they take in nutrients faster and get rid of waste products. As a result, hair will become fuller, thicker, and healthier.

Your Age Could Be Causing Your Hair Loss

As we age, it is common to start noticing a lot of changes that occur within our body. Our senses and faculties decline along with the undesirable physical changes that begin to take place. Hair loss is one of the changes that both men and women may experience.

If you notice that your hair is thinning gradually, you may consider it as one of the physical changes that occur with ageing. Finding out why this occurs with age and how to prevent such problems can help you fight hair loss as you grow older. Although this problem is especially prominent in ageing men, women also suffer from it.

Both men and women tend to lose hair thickness as they age. Most women in their fifties also tend to shed more hair than their male counterparts. For women, the loss of hair can be actively progressing after menopause when there is a drop in the level of oestrogen. This is attributed to the fact that oestrogen counteracts the activity of androgen hormones. Without oestrogen, androgens are free to act on hair follicles and cause the latter to miniaturize.

Hormones and Male Hair Loss: The Truth Unveiled

Contrary to popular belief, most men who suffer from hair loss are saddened with their situation and would do anything to reverse the condition.

Like women, men who are experiencing hair loss fear rejection and are afraid to become society’s outcast. Indeed, hair loss affects every aspect of a man’s life. It affects their social relationships as well as their professional and personal lives.

All men will face hair loss problems any time of their lives. Some will have to face it earlier than others. The genes from the parents have so much to do with the onset of baldness especially at an early age.

When men reach their twenties or thirties, they will begin to notice thinning hair or early onslaught of hair loss. This premature hair loss is usually inherited. It means that someone on the mother’s or father’s side of the family has a history of hair loss. When your parents are genetically predisposed to hair loss, then you have a greater chance of experiencing this condition.

Male pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss in men. It is due to the amplified sensitivity to the male sex hormones known as androgens in certain areas of the scalp. The hormones make the hair follicles shrink. Eventually, when they become so small, they cannot sustain healthier hair growth, hence creating thinner and finer hair strands. Other times, the hair follicles become dormant that they can no longer generate new hair growth.
